A Frameless Gallery Wall

DrewB is a wedding and family photographer and owner of DrewB Photography. She also writes a popular blog for moms who love photography called Mom*tog.

We recently moved into a 92 year old Craftsmen home, which we just love. But, with 92 year old homes comes 92 year old dry wall and hanging anything heavy on the walls becomes a bit of a liability in earthquake country. In our old home we had a gallery wall of frames above my daughter Kennedy’s crib. We didn’t feel it was safe to do that here so I opted to go frameless for this gallery wall. When I saw the Framers from Mpix I knew they would be perfect for the gallery wall in her new room. No heavy frames and no glass.

When I start creating a gallery wall, I gather all of the items that will potentially be hung.

Sometimes I do all pictures, but for Kennedy’s wall I wanted it to be a combination of her favorite things. Pictures of some of her favorite people so she could look at them before falling asleep. Some mementos we’ve picked up along the way like a dream catcher we bought on our recent road trip through the Great Plains. And some quotes that hung in her old nursery.

Next I arrange everything on the ground.

I move everything around until it’s just right. It’s like putting together a puzzle figuring out what will fit where. And once I have everything placed where I want, we begin hanging them. Or I should say that’s when my husband starts hanging everything. This gallery wall was particularly painless because of the Framers. My husband highly endorses them because there are no levels or drilling required. So very easy to use. And they look amazing.

I love gallery walls that reflect the personality of your home and the people that live in it. That’s what makes them so unique!

    Hi there,

What are you using to hang the non-Framers art?

I love the you are my sunshine plaque you have on the wall. I sing that to my daughter every night for 2 years now and have looked for one but I haven’t been able to find anything, where could I find something like that? We are moving and she will have her own room now so I would love to get one like that.

I, too, sang “You are my Sunshine” to my daughter for years and years. On Ebay I found a battery-powered, wall hanging sun that moved its “rays” in and out while it sang “you are my sunshine”. My daughter loved it! Unfortunately, it no longer works. However, I’m sure they made more than one… check eBay and vintage toy stores. It’s a treasure worth searching for. Good luck!

Hi Stephanie! I purchased it from here a few years ago Not sure if they have the same exact one, but I bet they could make it custom if they don’t carry it.
