The holiday season is a time when we have an opportunity to gather and celebrate the closing of a year and prepare to begin a new one with a fresh perspective. With this season comes parties, dinners and gift giving- a tradition many of us often procrastinate on due to lack of originality and meaningfulness of what’s beneath the wrapping paper. This holiday season, I’m doing things different by giving the gifts that will leave a lasting impression for many years to come!
If you are ready to win at gift giving this holiday season, then this guide is for you. This year, the themes of my presents are printed memories from special events that took place during the year prior. While accessibility of digital images allows instant access and sharing, there is nothing quite like printing an image to display in real life. Because of this, I’ve sent several photographs to the printer to create Photo Books, Modern Metal prints and one awesome Framed Print.
If you or your loved ones celebrated an amazing event this year, why not give them the gift of lasting memories? Pictures from weddings, graduations, and new additions to the family are worthy of more than being stored away deep in an iPhone or on a distant relatives computer, so now is the perfect opportunity to share hard copies of these moments.
The first step to creating gifts are getting a hold of high resolution files to ensure your prints are crisp and rich in color because let’s face it, blurry photos won’t impress! Once you have your images ready, there are several different ways to give them as gifts. From Photo Books to Ornaments and Calendars, choose what you believe the recipient will like best and roll with it!
This year, I designed and printed a Photo Book showcasing a very special wedding that took place this past summer in Napa Valley. A Photo Book is something that all newlyweds would love to receive and I cannot wait to gift it to the new couple on their first Christmas together this upcoming December.
Conceptually thinking about how to design the book, I begin selecting the most significant photos out of hundreds and narrowed them down to fit into a 16 page chronological book. By choosing page layouts that fit between 3 to 5 pictures per page, I was able to position as many images as I could while keeping the look elegant and sleek. I had such an awesome time reliving the events that lead up to the wedding and of course, the wedding itself while designing the pages over the course of a few day which made the process completely painless. I had the book printed on semi-gloss photographic paper and added a dust jacket for an extra special touch!
In addition to a beautiful large print paired in a stunning silver ornate frame for the newlywed, I printed several images for other family members too! In order to make sure these gifts ‘wow’, I had them printed as Modern Metals and I am obsessed with the results of this type of print! The colors appear as rich as ever and the contemporary feel matches well with the sleek appearance of the other gifts.
Whether you are unsure on what to give loved ones this year or your looking to treat yourself to some new decor pieces, don’t wait to print your pictures and get ready win at gift giving this year!
